After experience in summer theaters he came back up Broadway ' and found the going somewhat easier. He obtained parts with Helen Mencken in “Laughing Women,” Ruth Gordon in “The Country Wife” and with Peggy Wood and Rollo Peters in “The Taming of the Shrew,” among other things.
Manual Seniors To Present Play
The first of two performances of Gertrude Tonkonogy’s comedy, “Three Cornered Moon,” will be given at Manual High School tomorrow afternoon by members of the senior class. Harriet Payne To Give Recital
Harriet Payne, who iz listed 25:3. composer in the musical dictionaries, is also a violinist, pianist and violist. And it is in this last branch of her varied talents that she will perform when she is heard in recital at 8:30 o'clock tonight ‘in the World War Memorial auditorium. A native of Indianapolis, Miss Payne is a member of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra’s viola section and a member of the Jordan Conservatory faculty. She will be accompanied tonight. by Marie Zorn, piano teacher at the Conservatory. ’ Tonight’s program includes a transcription of the Vitali Chaconne, the Handel B Minor Concerto and Brahms’ Sonata, Opus 120 No. 2 in the first half. Two of Miss Payne’s compositions; Nocturne and Burleska, and her transcription - for viola of the Paganini Caprice in A minor are included in the program’s

INDIANAPOLIS HAS BECOME the scene of a very mild hubbub since Claude Allison of the Strand took credit for the introduction of early opening hours at the neighborhood houses. ; Earl Cunningham, manager of the Fountain Square and Granada Thedters, looks upon Mr, Allison as somewhat of a usurper. Mr. Cunningham was managing theaters in Indianapolis when Claude was a

HOLLYWOOD, Nov, 15 (U. P.).— Hedy Lamarr today was charged with failing to live up to the terms of an employment contract in a suit filed by M-G-M Studios for an inJunction to prevent her from working for any other studio. The complaint said the actress, whose contract provides for a salary ranging from $550 to $2500 a week, refused to work last Sept. 20, and recently rain to accept other employment.
