a “nice” girl is one who has succeeded in doing average
good work in her classes, who has good manners, who knows the difference between a good appearance and a cheap appearance, who
is able to make friends with other

. First of all you must decide what kind of girl you want to be. You must choose a goal well within your ability to reach. That is, you cannot decide to be a rich girl and wake up the next morning

decide to be a successful girl and work
toward it every day with ample hope of reaching your goal. ; The safest way to attract attention to yourself in school is by your own attainments. You can choose to shine in at least one of your subjects and to know more about it than anybody else in school. You can identify yourself with those school activities which rest on achievement and are open to all, such as the Journalistic Society or the Fiction Club, by perfecting yourself to the point where you ‘are
