SCHOOL TRAFFIC SAFETY BATTLE JOINED BY DUNN
County Executive Appeals’
-To Motoring Hunters To Use Caution. °
Malcolm, Dunn, County Schools superintendent, today joined parents school officials in their fight to e the highways safe for County school children. Mr. Dunn, realijing that traffic will increase with/the opening of the hunting s tomorrow, has appealed to hunters.to obey the State law which forbids passing a school bus that is loading or unloading children. Sheriff Al Feeney, joining Mr. Dunn, said that “a lot of hunters probably will be anxious to get io their ~favorite hunting spot before someone. else does.”
Convoy Promised
. He added the warning: “If we + catch any hunters or any other * driver, passing a school bus in violation ‘of the law there wili be an immediate arrestt.” The sheriff has promised to convoy all busses in those areas where complaints are made. By following| several busses in the past.few weeks the sheriff has arrested more than a dozen persons for passing standing busses. Meanwhile a petition signed by parents of pupils in Warren Township is to be presented to Don Stiver, Indiana State Police’ Superintendent. The petition will ask for police convoys for busses until the violators are arrested.

Peters to Aftend Conference—R. Earl Peters, Federal Housing Authority, state administrator, will go to Chicago Sunday to attend a conference called by Washington officials of the FHA to map out the 1940 large scale housing program. He will be accompanied by Kenneth L. Overfield of his staff. The fiveday conference opening Monday will be attended by representatives of 15 Middle Western states.
E. W. P. Smith, consulting engineer for the Lincoln Electric Co., Cleveland, O., will address the November meeting of the Indiana Section, American Welding Society, at 7:30 p. m. tomorrow at the Athenaeum, following a dinner. His topic will be “Factors Affecting the Cost of Welded Products.”

BACKS DRIVE ON RATS
" The Seventh District Federation of Clubs today indorsed the request of the Mayor's Civic Pride Committee that the State Tax Board
restore a $1000 item for rat elimination in the city which was cut out; by the City Council. In a resolution sent to the Works Board and Mayor Reginald H. Sullivan, the Federation pointed out that the number of rats has grown “to alarming proportions and that immediate action is needed.” The resolution praised the work done by ~the Mayor's committee and the Smoke Abatement League in striving to make Indianapolis a “cleaner and more attractive city.”
NINE INDIANA WPA WORKS APPROVED
Nine Indiana projects involving expenditures of $365,279 have been approved by WPA officials, John K. Jennings, State WPA administrator, announced today. The largest on the list is a $131,395 street and alley improvement program at West Lafayette. Another is for $66,094 to pave county roads in Benton County. - A third project for $57,363 calls for street and alley paving in
