tured the stock market in afternoon trading today.

‘General Motors rose nearly $1 to |4ns

$55 while Pennsylvania gained

$1.12; to $25.12%. The former |Ar™

was in demand on its sales report for October showing a sharp rise. Pennsylvania rose on declaration of a $1 Sivident against 50 cents a year:

iia Are Strong

Strength in these high grade issues brought a steadier tone to the remainder of the market which earlier had made an irregular decline. Utilities were strongest as a group with fractional gains in most common stocks. Copper shares firmed after a substantial decline. International Nickel had a 50-cent gain around the end of tke third hour. Mont-gomery-Ward was supported on its sales report showing a new record high. Steels were steady around the previous close. Cotton futures set up gains ranging to more than $1 a bale and held |¢ up well under profit-taking to feature trading in major commodity futures markets.

Wheat Prices Firm

Wheat ruled steady to firm in light trading on the Chicagb Board of Trade. At the end of the first hour wheat was unchanged to up 3% cent, corn unchanged to off % cent, and oats unchanged to % cent lower. Bullish crop news was offset in the wheat pit by peace moves in Europe, and trading was cautious. Initial prices were unchanged to % cent lower, but the continued drought in the Southwest along with very pessimistic private reports on winter wheat conditions attracted some buying.

lands and Belgium introduced a note of uncertainty in the share market today and prices eased on the London Stock Exchange. mand for British funds lessened and prices softened fractionally.
