The effect of the mechanical corn! picker, a harvesting device introduced into Indiana recently, on Hoosier agricultural employment is being studied by John K. Jennings, State WPA administrator. Mr. Jennings said that as far as could be determined this fall, the mechanical picker has had little; effect in reducing employment, but its full effect has not yet been noticeable. | “As the combine displaced migrant workers who followed the wheat harvest, the corn picker is now displacing some seasonal corn! huskers,” he said. | The total effect of new mechanical harvesting equipment on both mi-| gratory and stationary labor is be-' ing studied both nationally and locally by WPA research projects.
