"00D MUSIC" By James Thrasher A most impressive hyphenated mouthful is the debut of Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco with the New York Philharmonic-Symphony Orchestra tomorrow. Having paused and inhaled, let us

now proceed. Mr. CastelnuovoTadesco is a Florentine composer whose music is no stranger to American audiences. He has been composing for 29 of his 44 years, during which time he has assembled a rather imposing array of works, including two operas, several violin ‘and piano concertos, and shorter works, many of them based on Shakespeare’s plays. Tomorrow’s broadcast brings American radio audiences their first hearing of the composer as soloist

conducted by John Barbirolli. Carrying on in the vein of Shakespearean inspiration, Mr. Barbirolli will conclude the concert with Tschaikowsky’s “Romeo and Juliet” overture-fantasy. In addition, there will be the Elgar Introduction and Allegro for Strings to open the concert. > ® 8 ” Jascha Heifetz will be soloist tomorrow night with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. Eugene Ormandy returns at the same time for a second appearance this season as conductor. . The soloist’s contributions to the program will include the SaintSaens “Havanaise,” Fritz Kreisler's arrangement of the “Londonderry "Air,” and the Scerzo-Tarantelle of Wieniawski. On the orchestral side are the Entrance of the Gods into Valhalla, from Wagner's “Rheingold,” the March from Goldmark’s “The Queen of Sheba,” and Sibelius’

in his Piano Concerto No. 2, as well| ‘00 | 8s his Overture to “Twelfth Night,”

ON THE ADD

Anent the difficulties of he: Maestro Toscanini and the N

probably means that the elements were particularly kind. So, when Mr. T his Beethoven cycle on NBC-Blue at 9 o'clock tonight, let us hope that these benevolent atmospheric conditions still prevail. e pro= gram includes three relatively une familiar works, the Second and Fourth S onies, 2nd the “Leo=~ nore” Ove ure No. 2

Immedia ne following the Phils’ harmonic-Symphony broadcast toe morrow, CBS-WFBM has scheduled a first radio performance of a “folk oratorio” by Earl Robinson, called “Ballad for Americans.” I The famous Negro baritone, Paul Robeson, will -be soloist with a chorus of white and Negro singers. Mark Warnow will conduct, and Burgess Meredith will act as master of ceremonies. i

” # ” " The new Primrose String Quartet, already heard on NBC’s Beethoven cycle on Sunday, will make its first concert appearance tomorrow on the New Friends of Music program in Town Hall, New York. A portion of the concert will be broadcast on NBC-Blue, beginning at 5 p. m. and includes the Brahms Clarinet Trio in A Minor; the Duo for Violin and Viola and the E Flat Quintet, both by Mozart.

2 8 2 The last two movements of Rache maninoff’s Third Piano Concerto will be heard on tomorrow's Radio City Music Hall broadcast. Hene rietta Schumann will be soloist, and Erno Rapee, the conductor... Other items on t all-Russian program are the Overture to Klinka's “Russe land and Ludmilla” Overture, and Rimsky-Kersakov’s “Capriccio Ese pagnol.” | | | sts
