Mac's Tip—Pick Coach, Not Team
(Continued From Page 30)
coaches are nearly always overlooked.” This is ridiculous when you stop to think of it, because while coaching may not be all of football, it plays a whacking big part. And the differende between coaches is like that between night and day. There are coaches who are great on offense but who couldn’t mould a defense if allowed to use cement and a trowel. There are others who can make scoring on them tough but who couldn’t create an offense even with the help of friendly referees. Some coaches have been at the job 20 years without contributing a single new idea to the game. Some—anll these are the good and great ones — make changes in their systems every year to make them fit their material. The next time you go about trying to decide the winner of a football game ask yourself how the two coaches stack up. More often than not youll find that one of them, over the years, has proved himself superior in getting the most out of his material. That's the fellow to ride with. Forget the weather, the latitude, and the colors of the two teams, and put -your shillings oh
the better coach.
