REAL ESTATE FACTORS GAIN IN THE STATE

«| Improvement Is Noted for Mortgage Security in Bank’s Report.

Times Special WASHINGTON, Nov. 1.—Basic and related economic factors underlying real estate mortgage security in Indiana improved during the first six months of 1839, it was reported today in a survey released by the Federal Home Loan Bank ‘Board. On the favorable side of the ledger, the bank board listed a

‘| steady - improvement in rent pay-

ing capacity, brightening of the relief situation, downward trend of foreclosures, gain in the volume of residential construction over last year, increase in FHA insured reduction of ratio of real estate holdings to total assets

i during 1938 and increases in busi-

ness sales, bank debits and indus-

, | trial activity.

Against these, unfavorable items were. a rise in home building costs and a decline in farm income, the

+ |bank board said.

Residential construction the first half of this year rose 101.7 per cent over ‘the year-ago period, the bank board reported, although the number of units undertaken in June declined 46.5 per cent from May. The report showed a 59.5 per -cent in estimated foreclosures from a year ago. Rentals of Home Owners’ Loan Corp. properties were

“| slightly lower this spring than a

year ago, and the cost of living rentals showed no change. Public relief costs showed a decline of 17.1 per, cent in the average

. |case load from the corresponding

period of last year, according to the

2 | survey.

The board noted a 3.2 per cent increase in the cost of building a standard six-room house in July, 1939, ‘as compared with July, 1938. Farm income for the six-month period was 8.2 per cent lower than a year ago, the survey reported.

For girls who ha have been away from home only. once in their five years, the Dionne Quintuplets have exerted quite an influence. For one thing, they gave Jean Hersholt a dramatic M. One result was the “Dr, Christian” radio series, which|° commences its third season tonight. Another is a projected film series of the same title, first picture of which
