FINAL NEW YORK 'S7 OCKS

By UNITED PRESS

Traders took profits today on

what little buying was generated by Senate passage of the Neutrality ‘Bill, and the stock market receded fractions to more than- $1.

‘Volume was moderate. Some large initial blocks, ranging to 12,000 shares in Curtiss-Wright, sent the first hour tranactions to 290,000 shares, the same as last Saturday. Thereafter the dealings lightened. ~ Douglas at its low of $82 was off $225. Others of the group regis‘tered losses ranging to a $1. Wright gained $1. Steels joined the decline and their losses ranged to more than $1 in Bethlehem. Other issues of the socalled war group—coppers, railroad equipments, truck shares, chemicals and oils~were fractionally lower. Railroad issues dipped slightly. Mercantile stocks were sustained by favorable trade reports. Attendance in the street was light as usual on recent Saturdays. Many traders continued to remain on the sidelines pending Houst action on the Neutrality Bill.

Bonds made an irregular decline Bl

with the exception of U S Government issues, which moved higher.

A huge Libby turret lathe, believed to be the largest ever constructed, is ‘examined at the International Machine Tool Co. here by R. W. Starting at the foot of the ladder. he learned the business first as an apprentice. Later he became a

the ranks to become general factory manager of the Caterpillar Tractor Co. at Peoria, Ill. Before joining the Clearing Machine Corp. of Chicago, he spent two years in Russia as consulting engineer in the construction of the world’s largest tractor plant there. "GOOD MUSIC" By James Thrasher

It is quite enough, probably, to tell interested listeners that Arturo Toscanini begins a six-week Beethoven cycle with the NBC Symphony Orchestra tonight with performances of the Third and Fifth Symphonies. The series will include all the symphonies, as well as many of the Beethoven overtures and other major orchestral works. The cycle’s concluding concert will be held in Carnegie Hall, Dec. 2, at which time Mr. Toscanini will conduct the Ninth Symphony. The soloists are yet. to be selected. » ” ”

There have been many justifiable complaints from local Toscanini

quate reception of this outstanding attraction hereabouts. There appears to be no station of sufficient power within 30 miles of us to bring in the weekly Toscanini concerts. However, listeners with short wave sets might try for tonight's program on the NBC station in Schnectady. Last week’s short wave reception of the concert, except for the inevitable tonal distortions, was quite’ satisfying. The only trouble was that the short, wave broadcast ended at ‘10:30, thereby excluding the program's gonciuding Wagner excerpts. ” » # Another excellent series, heard only after considerable trouble, is the New Friends of Music broadcasts, returning tomorrow on NBC-Blue. You'll just havg to fish till you find it. The Budapest String Quartet, assisted by William Primrose, viola,

play the G Minor Viola Quintets by Mozart and Brahms, and the Mozart Horn Quintet in E Flat. : 2 8 =» Mr. Primrose will be heard later in another of NBC's ann
