QUEBEC VOTES TODAY ON WAR SENTIMENT

MONTREAL, Quebec, Oct. 25 (U. P.) —The French province of Quebec, in an election today, decides how it feels toward the Government’s war program. * Three Quebec ministers threatened to resign if Premier Maurice Duplessis, who ordered the election as a protest against the alleged infringement of Quebec's rights by Federal war measures, is re-elected. Betting odds indicated that Premier Duplessis, heading the National Union Party, would be de-

feated by Adelard Godbout, leader of the Provincial Liberty Party. But

nan; change editor, ty Jeanne Davis, Bi nan, Hilda Kro Marian Updike, Uhl

a close race was expected.

The issue of national conscription played a major role in the election campaign. Prime Minister W. L. Mackenzie King promised not to invoke the conscription law to send men overseas to help the Allies, but both Mr. Duplessis and Mr. Godbout insist that his promise might be broken. Mr. Duplessis, in his campaign, said that a vote for him would be a vote against conscription. Mr. Godbout countered that a Liberal Government in Ottawa is “the best protection against conscription.”

BOYS’ BODIES FOUND

FLOATING ON RIVER

EAST HARTFORD, Conn., Oct. 25 (U.P.).—The bodies of two small boys lost since Oct. 16 were found today floating in the Connecticut River not far from where the youngsters were last seen alive. A search for Robert Druce, 5, and Robert Belanger, 4, had been under way for more than a week. The parents, after several days passed without trace of the boys, held to the theory some stranger might have taken them away.

TOWNSEND OPPOSES ‘HAM AND EGGS’ PLA

CHICAGO, Oct. 25 (U. P.)—Dr. Francis E. Townsend was en route to California today to cast his vote Nov. 7 against the “Ham and Eggs” pension plan which draws much of its support from former members of his own old-age revolving pension plan, He said he opposed the plan because “it is unfeasible and actually looks toward destruction of the business of a wonderful state only in order to get pensions out of it.” ———————————————
