GAINS EXCEED | $1 IN TRADING ~ ONN.Y. BOARD

Chicago Grains Decline; Other Commodities Also Lower.

: By UNITED PRESS A moderate increase in buying

brought gains of fractions to more than $1 in stocks today. Trading was a bit more active. Aviations, tobaccos, amusements and building issues were strong. Steels and motors did little, however.

| \ New highs were made by Bruns-|ga wick-Balke-Collender, Cluet Pea-

body, Consolidated Aircraft, Eastern Air Lines, Interchemical, Mohawk . Carpet and Dresser Manufacturing. Diamond T Truck equaled its high.

Some Gains $2 to $3

Gains of $2 to $3 were made by U. S.- Gypsum, Liggett & Myers issues and National Biscuit preferred. Bethlehem Steel ran up nearly $2 and then receded. Small gains were noted ~in mail order shares, some rails and coppers. Douglas and Loew’s rose more than 1. There was nothing in the news to sway the list, although several favor-

able corporation reports were forth- ¢

coming.

C Wheat eased a half cent on the Chicago Board of Trade as pros-|co

pects of rain in sections of the winter wheat belt caused scattered selling.

At the end of the first hour|¢

wheat was off 3 @ 5 cent, corn was unchanged to 3% cent lower, and

oats were % cent higher to % cent|g

lower. Wheat Rallies Slightly

. The wheat market rallied slightly after opening easier. The bullish tone of private crop reports partially counteracted the rain forecast. There was changing between the December future and more deferred deliveries. December and

July wheat were sold here against|gec E

purchases at Minneapolis. Corn trade was light. Expectations of support from export inter- |: ests made local shorts uneasy. Other major commodity markets. drifted iregularly lower. Tired, long liquidations was the main factor in the easiness in most of the markets. World sugar futures dropped to net losses of 5 points. Domestic options were steady. Rubber lost 15 to 40 points and silk dropped 6 to 81% points. Cotton moved around previous closing levels. Copper and coffee were firm but cocoa declined 5 to 7 points. British Government ‘funds staged another substantial advance on the Tondon Stock Exchange and "bolstered prices in other sections of the home list.
