“On Your Toes,” will keep you on your toes. It's a combination of good music, crazy Russians and ballet dancing. ; It has Zorina, the beautiful Zorina, who was born in Norway and got her Russian ballet experience from the Ballet Russe at Monte Carlo in France. It's the same Zorina who played the angel in “I Married an Angel. . In this show it’s almost all Zorina. All except for the show’s opening when 12-year-old Junior Dolan pledges his love to little Vera, the 10-year-old doing a dance act in vaudeville. “Ja vas loo bloo,” she says. (Or something that sounds like that.) It means “I love you.” And then she goes away for 144 years. The next time they meet, Junior has composed a great piece of music. It is to be played for the ballet of which she is the premiere danseuse., They fall in love all over again. The great night comes. The-bal- " let master is jealous of the love af- % fair. Junior is to dance the main role. At the end he is to shoot himself. The ballet masfer plants a couple of thugs in a box. They are to assassinate Junior as he fires the last stage shot. You can bet somebody catches on to that malarchy. At points in the movie the dialog is a little too fast. But where can you find two choicer pieces of invective than these?
Times Special ; | HOLLYWOOD, Oct. 21.—Intere mingled in the tradition of the “western” in up-to-date Hollywood are William Boyd and a musty old stage coach. Mr. Boyd used to be a drawing ti: | room attraction and character actor, i | But now he has turned Western rancher with a vengeance. The stage coach is the vehicle | [that Mr. Boyd has “rescued” in dozf lens of pictures—and’ it has been i: (used in more than 500. - It has gone over. cliffs, been shot up and generally wrecked. Mr. Boyd, who knows its history, reports: “That coach is more traveled than the average actor. It has made trips to Lone Pine, Bakersfield, Kernville, Barstow, Sonora and other Calofirna ‘western’ locations. i: “It has also been in Tucson, Ariz. i |several places in Texas, and on one occasion it got to New York City.”

“You are the kind of a person snakes have dreams about!” “When I get through with you you're going to have a headache that would get up and sneer at a concussion.” The music is a pleasing complement to the show. It was used to accentuate parts of the movie just as it is used in a single ballet. A character ‘has moment of indecision and a false note is sounded. INDIANA
“Disputed Passage,” featured picture at the Indiana this week, is notable for fine work by John Howard and Akim Tamiroff and for an operating scene that ruins thousands of fingernails and handkerchiefs in the audience.
The movie is a picturization of
sonations of Ned Sparks, George Arliss and Jimmy Durante. Suddenly out of the wings, came Mirth, no, ‘maybe it was Mack, all dressed up to look like Groucho Marx. And it was Groucho practically. All in a minute the other disappeared and presently Harpo Marx appeared. The audience was.-more than satisfied. )

( Lloyd C. Douglas’ novel. Its theme is strongly similar to the other two Douglas books which were filmed .. the story of the soul's supremacy over body. The operating scene calls for removal of a small fragment of shrapnel that has entered John Howard’s brain during an air raid “somewhere in China.” It is performed in a dingy, dirty field hospital. There is very little hygiene. The camera focuses: on Tamiroff, the great surgeon and Howard's former teacher. It moves to the natives, who wait fearful, wondering, tense. All is quiet. The assistants work silently, quickly. Suddenly Tamiroff stops, a nurse wipes his brow, he holds up a crooked piece of meanlooking steel. The spell is-broken. The operation is necessary to the theme of the movie: “When science fails, why not try love?” Dorothy Lamour represents love. She plays the role of an American
