Prisoners Go Hungry for Killer Pal
CHICAGO, Oct. 13 (U. P.).—Cop Killer Steve Cygan had been nice to his fellows in the Cook County Jail so when his time came to die they refused to eat to show that they were for him. When luncheon was announced in the jail yesterday, 22 prisoners refused to go to table. They assured Warden Prank Sain that their fast was not to be taken as indiscipline, but merely a gesture of sympathy for a pal. Dinner time came at 4 p. m. and
the 22 fasters sent word to: the Warden that they didn’t want their dinner. So he ordered them locked in their cells. Cygan ate during the afternoon. Late last night, the guards went around to his cell and asked what he would like for his last meal. He said he didn’t want one and when they .urged him he said no, thanks, he wouldn't care even for a snack. * So as Friday the 13th began a few minutes after midnight today,
Cygan was taken, hungry, into the execution chamber. “I got a bum rap,” he said, sitting in the chair. “Say good by to the boys.” He ‘killed Policeman John Chiska in a holdup April 5, 1928. He fled
for robbery. After he finished his sentence he was turned aver to Illinois authorities. He was convicted a year ago.
