i RECRUTS READY TO REPLACE OLD TROOPS AT FORT
New Streamlined Units to Be Formed Following Shifts to South.
Ft. Harrison, which is to be evacy uated of présent troops under the War Department's winter training program in the South, will not be vacant for long, official word indicated today. As soon as present occupants leave for the South, in three or four weeks, new recruits will arrive and be organized into units which in turn will be concentrated later in Alabama in one of the newly created streamlined divisions. ’ The information was received here from the Fifth Corps Area headquarters at Ft. Hayes, O., which also brought official confirmation of reports of the shift of the Ft. Harrison’s 2200 officer and enlisted-man personnel to Camp McClellan, Ala., to make up part of the new Fifth Division.
Join Other “Regulars”
The 11th infantry, medical and ‘quartermaster detachments now stationed here, comprising 1760 men will go directly to Alabama to join other “regulars” from Ft. Hayes, and Ft. Thomas, Ill The battalion of the 19th Field Artillery will go to Ft. Knox, Ky. to form a nucleus for still another streamlined division which when created will also be shifted to the Alabama winter-training reservation. Meanwhile, post executive officer Lieut. Col. J. H. Davidson announced that a demonstration of units of the 11th Infantry will be held in down- * town streets Saturday. A convoy of tanks, artillery, infantry, quartermaster and ambulance vehicles will form at the Post Road -and 56th St. and move toward the City and then to the Indiana World War Memorial Plaza.
Skeleton Force to Remain
The demonstration is being held in connection with the regular Army enlistment campaign here, part of a nation-wide program to bring the Army to full peace-time strength. ~~ Under the winter training plans, only a skeleton force will be left at the. post here as caretaker detachments. The new streamlined divisions are designed to increase division mobility and fire power by reduction in number of standard division personnel from 20,000 to 9000.
