Business news continued mainly favorable, but major attention was focused on the confused foreign ‘picture. : Aviation shares met some demand. United Aircraft and Douglas gained $1 and more. Bethlehem Steel, U.S. Steel, Chrysler and General Motors were little changed. Chemical, oil and electrical equipment shares were firm. Utilities generally showed small gains, while rails were mixed. Wheat rallied slightly after dipping a cent on the Chicago Board of Trade on liquidation pressure. At the end of the first hour wheat was off 4 to 3. cents, corn off % to 1- cent, and oats were % to % cent lower. - Reports of large domestic wheat supplies and favorable crop prospects in Argentina weakened prices. . NEW YORK, Oct. 11 (U. P).— Buying by retailers and consumers continues to reflect better business conditions and confidence in prices, the American Institute, of Food Distributors, Inc., said today.

posite the main entrance to the Indiana State Fair Grounds, will be opened Friday, W. L. McGinley, owner, announced today. The new business, housed in a structure = entirely different than any other in the city, will be managed by S. G. Hatch. Elevated on a terrace, the building is in the form of an oval and a circle connected with a long dining room. Parking space for 300 cars is provided. Two kitchens service the building, one in the basement and the other in the front. The upstairs kitchen is enclosed in glass to give customers a view of meals being

CHICAGO, Oct. 11 (U. P). — Substantial reductions in margin requirements for grain trading, approved -yesterday "by the Chicago Board of Trade, became effective today. Minimum initial margins on‘ futures transactions were fixed at 10 cents per bushel on wheat, rye, barand soy beans; 8 cents -per bushel on corn, and 6 cents per bushel on oats.

BUILDING HERE SHOWS UPTURN
Valuation for 3d Quarter Is $445,611 Over 1938 Figure.
The total valuation of new building construction in Indianapolis during the third. quarter of 1939 was $445,611 more than of the same period a year ago, the City Building Commission reported today. The total valuation of construction the third quarter of this year was $2,898,454 compared with $2,452,843 a year ago. New industrial construction and improvements totaled $2,462,969, compared with $1,243,143 in 1938, while new residential construction and improvements was $435,485, compared with $1,209,700 in the same period of 1938. There were, however, 52 more dwellings erected in the third quarter of this year than in the same period a year ago. Permits for 271 dwellings were issued the Shird quarter this year. The 1939 third quarter residential figures, George ,R. Popp, Building Commissioner, said, were below the previous two quarters of the year because no large apartment construction was begun in that period. Several large apartment buildings were included in the 1938 figure of the third quarter, however,

A hospitalization plan for members of the Indiana Credit Union is to be discussed at a meeting of the Central Chapter of the organization at 7:30 o'clock this evening at the Grain Dealers Mutual Insurance Co. office, 1740 N. Meridian St. The plan calls for payment of an annual fee to provide payment of future hospitalization and other medical expenses.
