Incidentally, the name Aland is pronpunced either Oh-land or Au-land. Now a part of independent Finland, the islands in the past have been shifted,| along with Finland, from Swedish|/to Russian rule. When Finland gained| independence in 1917, an Aland Island situation arose, due to the majority of the islanders being of Swedish descent and voting to secede and go with Sweden rather {than remain | with Finland. War May Cause Civilians To Try Styles in Armor

Science Service NEW YORK, Sept. 29.—Wearing armor, like that of the knights old, only proof against modern lets and shell fragments, is likely come into fashion again, even mong the civil population, Pradieis Stephen V. Grancsay, curator of s and armor in the Metropolin Museum of Art here. Armored men already have been aving been seen rebed wire in front of entrenchments on the Western Fro gE. . “Armor wearing is not ideal,” Mr. “However, a soldier

Armor has never been entirely abandoned. During the World War, some of the [German machinegunners were equipped with breastplates. The heavy French cavalry had only ‘just abandoned the wearing of their shining steel cuirasses, which were! counted on to turn swords and lances in a charge, although it was known they would not stop bullets.
