W.C.T. U. Hears Civic Lassitude Attacked

ROCHESTER, ‘N. Y., Sept. 29 (U. P.).—The Women’s Christian Temperance Union’s national convention today discussed resolutions and proposals directed toward abstinence, peace and domestic welfare. Most of the day was taken up by! business sessions and informal discussions. © Tonight the anti-alcohol leaders will .hear addresses by Rochester civic leaders, ‘including publisher Frank E.' Gannett. Mrs. Jean Beaven -Abernethy of Stephens = College: Columbia, Mo., declared that t 8 European war might have been avoided if women of the ‘world had been “earnest enough and organized their beliefs sufficiently” in a broadcast over a national network last night as part of the centennial program. “Women want to be able to vote more intelligently, to be up-to-date on current events, to do something about the problems of drunkenness and embryo gangsters, racial discrimination and social disease— all of which flourish right in their own communities—but they never seem tg ‘get ond to .it,” Mrs. Abernethy said :
