90 Per Cent of Capacity Seen as Year’s Steel Peak
CLEVELAND, Sept. 25 (U. P)
are indicated for the near future, but the industry anticipates difficulty
in pushing operations much above before the end of the year, the
The periodical reported last week's rate up 5'% points to 7's per cent as compared with 46 per cent a year ago.
“Steelmaking capacity for the remainder of the year rapidly is being absorbed by the continued heavy flow of orders for finshed and semi-finished steel products,” the | authority stated, “and all available facilities are being rushed into serv-
| ice, with large sums being spent on
reconditioning of equipment. “The flood of buying the past
three weeks has left certain mills
confused regarding deliveries and some mills will accept no more business in semi-finished steel for 1939 delivery while others are sold out until 1940 on sheets and bars.” The trade journal added that reaffirmation of finished steel prices relieved some of the pressure for immediate delivery but did not moderate consumers’ urgency to be assured of future shipment, since demand generally is predicated on the hevianle s that Digher prices e after Dec. 31.

~Further gains in steel operations
90 per cent of theoretical capacity magazine Steel said today.
“Export markets continue active” the publication continued, “but at the moment mills are concerned principally with handling the crush of domestic business, and no important orders have come from belligerents.”
