PLAY PROGRAM T0 BE SCANNED BY PARK BOARD

Special Session Called for Tuesday on Plans For Winter.

The Park Board will meet in special session at City Hall Tuesday night to consider the 1939-40 winter recreation program for the City's community houses. Consideration of the program, prepared by Recreation Director H. W. Middlesworth, was postponed yesterday because of lack of time, Board members said. The Board ordered Mr, Middlesworth to investigate the complaint of four West Indianapolis mothers who told members that recreation facilities are inadequate at the Rhodius Park Community House.

Kindergarten Asked

The women asserted that the American Settlement, a Community Fund agency, “monopolized the community house and “did not have a program which appeaied to their children. They asked that a kindergarten be organized and that recreational facilities be increased. Mrs. Louis Markun, Board member, explained that the Board had no power to organize kindergartens and referred the group to the School Board. She said the recreation program at the Community house last year was adequate. Mrs. R. C. Thompson, 1534 Lee St., safety chairman of the ParentTeacher Association of School 46, charged that profanity was used in the building and that it had not been stopped.

Promises Action

Jackiel W. Joseph, Board president, asked the women to present recommendations for a winter recreation program to the Board. “Will giv» you anything you want,” he said, “if we know what you want.” In addition to Mrs. Thompson, the group included Mrs. Charles Schaler, 1432 Reisner St.; Mrs. George Walker of 1530 S. Belmont Ave. P.-T. A. vice president at the school, and Mrs. J. Earl Dortch of 1540 Shepard St, program chairman of the P.-T. A.

Nazi Gunners Wear Armor

ROME, Sept. 22 (U. P.).—Dis~patches from the Western Front in Popolo di Roma today described a new kind of armor— reminiscent of horse and buggy days as well as the age of knighthood—being worn by German soldiers. The armor, worn by Nazis for the first time on the Western Front yesterday, consists of streamlined shields, the newspaper said, and of helmets with

metal sideboards—similar in appearance to blinders for horses— designed to protect the face. The armor, especially designed for sharpshooter units, was said to be of almost impenetrable alloy. For offensive purposes, it was said, eacn armored soldier was equipped with a small machine gun firing 120 bullets a minute.
