Two First-String Guards to Be Out of Ball State Game Saturday.
On Ball State's Front Line
Coach Paul D. (Tony) Hinkle was busy today reshuffling his first string line for replacements, following the injury yesterday of Doyle Dugger, junior guard.
Walters or Paul Derringer is on the
pitching mound. They are very bad when anybody else pitches. Walters was in the box vesterday, and they beat the Phillies, 3-2,
and preserved their 212-game National League lead. As horrible as the | Reds were when the Phils slugged them, 13-1, Tuesday, they played clean, | and three times came from behind to enable
errorless ball yesterday
Walters to win his 26th game. Walters himself scored the winning tally in the ninth. He was hit by a pitched ball thrown by Boom Boom Beck, took second on Werber’s sacrifice, and scored on Ival the Terrible Goodman's single after Frey had been purposely passed. Frey's homer previously had tied the score. Bucky Wins No. 26 In scoring his 26th win Walters hung up his fifth straight and went the route for the 29th time in 33 starts. He is the first National League hurler to win 26 games since Carl Hubbell turned the trick In 1936. With Paul Derringer following Walters to the mound today, sthe| Reds case is slightly improved, but they cannot afford to revert to their | form of 48 hours ago again this sea- | son. They have 13 games left, one with the Phils today, eight with the Pirates, and four with the Cards Clinging desperately to pennant hopes, the Cardinals slugged Hugh Casey out of the box and battered the Dodgers, 10-4, for their third straight. Stu Martin hit a homer with two on and Don Gutteridge hit one with the bags empty. Bob Bowman was the winner, although he had to have relief after 62: innings. Hubbell Allows Eight Hits
