Still held by Amy Ellen's story, Marian crowded close to Dan. “I like to dance with you, Dan.” “Me, t00,” he said indifferently. “How do you think Carma is going over with Randy Seems to me he’s paying a lot of attention to Dolly.” | “Oh, he’s just sorry for her. Poor little Dolly.” | Marian glanced into the living room. Bill had challenged Carma to a game of pinochle. was sitting on the arm of Bill's| chair, vastly interested | “Dan,” Marian said, ‘‘shouldn’t we be a little bit sentimental on our 12th wedding anniversary” “I dunno—should we?” he asked blankly “Dan, you're impossible tonight. Just what did you mean by vow speech at dinner?” | “Nothing. I wasn't prepared.” | “Well, I think it was very poor taste to air difficulties to the world.” “I didn't know we had any difficulties. Guess were just about as as the average couple.” He vas deliberately dodging the point. Sh2 was ready to crv with impotent rage. “I wish we'd never had this party. You didn't have to stand up and make fun of me. I know I work. I know I haven't been satis-| fied to bea drudes on—" { He stopped quickly that she stumbled. “Let's not go into thnt tonight,” he said gruffly.
