the submarine Squalus today and the Naval Court of Inquiry reconVened to determine officially the cause of the disaster. The body of a La Porte, Raillor was one of the first from the vessel One by one ‘he bodies were carried from the after section while their more fortunate shipmates, including their commander, stood rigidly at attention.
Find Body Pinioned
One of the two bodies still within the battered hull—that of John J. Ratick of Kitterly, mate, 1st class—was pinioned so tightly beneath the aft battery room that workers had to cut away a section of steel floor to reach it. The three-man investigation board. in charge of Rear Admiral William T. Tarrant, planned to ingpect the salvaged submersible as soon as it was cieared of debris. They wanted to confirm or disprove an official theory that a faulty high induction valve caused the $4.300.000 underseas craft to sink in 40 fathoms of water during a routine dive off the Isles of Shoals, May 23. The Squalus had been towed to the Navy Yard after salvage workers had struggled for months to lift her from her ocean grave. The water-weighted stern sank below water at the dock yesterday morning. The salvagers lifted it again.

Ship's Colors Raised the Squalus’ colors were on her conning tower bridze and compressed air forced the water from the after compartments. When all was ready, Lieut Oliver Naquin, two other surviving officers, and 22 others of the survivors lined up at attention, The first victims taken from the engine room They were identified by finger prints as the bodies of Chief Machinist’'s Mate John A. —Building costs may rise in the near future because of a shortage of skilled mechanics, members of the Indiana Real Estate Association were told here today by George T.! Whelden, Indianapolis realtor. | Mr. Whelden, state appraiser for the HOLC, blamed the depression for the failure to develop new skilled tradesmen. Speaking at the concluding session of the two-day convention, Mr. Whelden. said that builders’ costs have been reduced by new low-payment finance plans which eliminate contract discounts. | The convention was to be formaily ended this afternoon with an election and an address by Samuel C. Cleland, attorney for the Tax-
payers’ Association, Ft. Wayne, on
“The Tax Dollar.” Election of a 1940 president succeed Earl B. Teckemeyer, Indianapolis, was between two persons, B. F. Shirk, Ft Mark D. Miltenberger, Muncie. In a speech yesterday C. B. Durham, president of the Indianapolis Real Estate Board, said that industrial production has stepped up all over the country, due partly to increased buying power.
