Labor Day Heralds Vacation Finale; Local Folk Start Trek Homeward.
: Labor Day unofficially marks the close of the vacation season and so the remainder of the month probably will bring news of summer homes being closed and re-
turns from resorts. Mr. and Mrs. Augustus Coburn Jr. will leave this week-end to spend the holidays with Mr. and Mrs. Julian Bobbs at Northport Point, Mich. Mrs. Augustus Coburn Sr. who has been spending the summer months with the Bobbs, will return to IndianapOlis with her son and daughter-in-law.
Eleanor Semans Returns Sunday
_ Miss Eleanor Semans, vacationing at the society resort at Sun Valley, Ida. will return Sunday. Miss Margaret Dowd is expected home next week after a visit on the West Coast with Mrs. John M. Carter of Hermosa Beach. Mrs. Carter was Miss Betty Mayer of Indianapolis before her marriage. Miss Dowd is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Dowd. Mr. and Mrs. James Watson and their daughter, Miss Elizabeth Watson, are expected back in the city on Tuesday. Mrs. Margaret B. Segur and daughter, DorNhy, returned last week after a 12-day cruise along the Atlantic coast. They were aboard the Italian liner, Roma.
Hartleys Back From West
The Harry D. Hartleys and daughter, Julianne, have returned from a trip West. They visited in San Francisco and Los Angeles and north as far as Portland, Ore. Also returned from vacations are Mrs. Samuel Dowden who visited Miss Emma Martindale in Santa Barbara and Mrs. Harry B. McKee and daughter, Mary Helen; Mrs. Ernest N. Gimbel and daughter, Dorothy Virginia, and Mrs. Guy F. Boyd and sons, William G. and ‘Guy F. Jr, who were at Ossinke, Mich., on Lake Huron. Mrs. John E. Scott, her son Jack ana daughter Nancy will return during the second week in September from Walloon Lake where they have been spending the last month with Mrs. Edward C. Toner of Anderson at the Toner summer home, “Shadow Trails.”
Martinet Family in Fast
S. J. Martinet, who has been spending the summer with his family at Falmouth, Mass. has returned to Indianapolis and will be here for a short while before returning to Falmouth to bring the family back to the city for the fall and winter months. Mr. and Mrs. Martinet visited in New York before his return to Indian-
apolis. On to Western College! Indianapolis will be well represented this year at Western College, Oxford, ©. Leading the delegation back to classes at the school will be the Misses Ruth Bertsch, Jean IL. Smith and her cousin, Jean M. Smith, who will graduate next June. The Misses Mary Elizabeth Bowen, Dorothy Chapin, Mildred Orr and Ruth Harry will return for their third year of study and Miss Betty Spickelmeir and Miss Helen Elliott will go back to look at the campus from the lofty view of sophomores. Five of this year’s crop of high
school graduates, the Misses Phoebe Carman, Martha Jo Cantwell, Charlotte Frazier, Judy Bosson and Adelaine Lewis, will be freshmen.
Junior League Shop Opens
The Junior League Next to New Shop opens for the season today with a style show. Several members also are to model apparel on Tuesday. The group includes the Mesdames Thomas Mahaffey, James Collins, Charles Moores, Van Rand, Blaine Miller Jr., Miss Betsy Home and Miss Mary Sheerin Kuhn. The shop has been closed for remodeling.

Sigma Phi Plans Dmner Tuesday
Mrs. Frieda Brimberry will speak on “Loyalty” before members of Alpha Chapter of Sigma Phi following the annual Founders’ Day formal dinner Tuesday evening at 7 ‘o'clock at Cifaldi’s. Mis. Fritz Bennett will be toastmistress. A dance will follow. Officers will be installed and talks on the beginning of the sorority in 1923 and the organization’s history will be presented by Miss Thelma Taulman and Miss Mildred King.
