LIEBER EULOGY READ AT RITES

Business and Civic Leaders Pay High Tributes to Unselfish Aims.

Last rites for Herman P. Lieber, president of the H. Lieber Co. and a civic leader in Indianapolis many years, were held yesterday at 4 p. m. with many of the city’s prominent business and civie leaders attending. Mr. Lieber died Tuesday at St. Vincent's Hospital following a short illness. Herman W. Kothe, Indianapolis attorney, eulogized Mr. Liebers’ career. A founder of the Indianapolis Community Fund and a former fund campaign chairman, Mr. Lieber was lauded in a resolution adopted by the board of directors at a meeting before the services and read at the rites by A. E. Baker. The resolution said in part: “Herman Lieber gave unselfishly and generously of his energy, time and money in order that this new idea of social work might succeed and become a part of the community life of this eity.” The resolution said Mr. Lieber was a sound thinker, It said that he understood people and was deeply sympathetic with their problems; that he judged men not by their race or creed but by what they really were; that he had a keen sense of the obligations of a good citizen to his fellowman and to his city.

May Concern

ROCKTON Mass, Sept. 1 (U. P). — A first offender, jailed overnight for drunkenness, paused at the desk after his release and shyly asked for a note. A policeman on duty wrote: ‘To whom it may concern: This is to certify that — spent the night at the Brockton police station following his arrest for drunkenness.” “Now my wife will know I wasn’t in trouble,” the offender said.
