EASES ABOUT A CENT “ON PEACE HOPE
Foreign Markets Decline 2 to 4 Cents; Corn ls. Off Fractions.
CHICAGO, Aug. 26 (U. P).— Wheat eased about a cent on the Chicago Board of Trade today: as European developments still offered Yraders some hope of a peaceful solution in the present crisis. Foreign markets were off from 2 to 4 cents. ei At. the close, wheat was off % cent to 1% cents, September 67%67%, corn was off % to % cent, September 43%-43%, and oats were unchanged to % cent lower, September 29%. There was heavy opening in the local wheat pit, with losses up to 2% cents a’ bushel
registered as longs who bought on the war-scare became nervous and
sold out. Ap-jmmediate rally occurred, however, which erased half
of the opening losses, and for the rest of the session prices fluctuated nervously in a relatively narrow range. There was scattered short ‘covering as traders evened up commitments for the week-end. Corn futures were fractionally lower, but fair support was uncovered on the early rally in'wheat. Some buying was credited to cash interests.

"GOOD MUSIC" By James. Thrasher
Mme. Nazimova has at least she thing in common with Nadejda: von Meck, whom she portrays on a broadcast tomorrow: Each saw the composer Peter Ilyitch Tschaikowsky only once. This coincidence probably will have little bearing on tomorrow's performance. More important is the Russian ‘actress’ ‘vaunted art, which should assure listeners. a sympathetic impersonation of Tschaikowsky’s strange and constant friend. As even the most casual music lover . doubtless: knows, Mme." von Meck both encouraged: and subsi dized the composer for years with out setting eyes on him. A wealthy widow, she became enamoured of the Russian’s music, wrote to him regularly and devotedly and finally settled an annual income upon him. And all this time they never met, save for. a single accidental instance.

Members of the NBC Symphony Orchestra, under Frank Black, will provide background music for, the performance which includes: ex=cerpts from the Fourth, Fifth and Sixth Symphonies and trie “Romeo and Juliet” Overture. 2) According to the story, a drae matic treatment of the Tschaikow= sky Von Meck friendship had been in Mme. With some little trepidation, this department passes along the CBS announcement of tomorrow’s program by Howard Barlow and the Columbia Broadcasting Symphony. Last week Schubert’s Second Symphony and sundry other. items were announced and duly set down here. Came the broadcast and an entirely different program hit the air. . . . Anyway, Mr. Barlow has announced for tomorrow Haydn's “Clock” Syme . phony, Wagner's “Siegfried Idyl* and the “St. Paul” Suite by Guse tav Holst. That’s a nice prospect, so
