Pact Is Bullish.
NEW YORK, Aug. 22 (U.P.)— Stocks made up nearly all yesterday’s losses in a sharp recovery tofov, «Despite profit-taking, gains were
well sustained and as the list|a
turned into the fourth hour gains ranged to more than 3 points.
Traders: argued that the Rus-|Am

These included a new high for the year in steel operations; outlook for sharp gains in automobile production this week; sustained high rate of building and electricity output, and gains in retail trade. In addition there were favorable
corporation reports; a rise of 42.2|2
per cent in net operating income for

grains followed wheat downward. At the close wheat was off % cent to 1% cents, Sept. 66% to 667%, corn was off % to 1 cent, Sept. 4332, and oats were % to % cent, Sept. 29%b. Scattered selling of wheat futures at the opening was based on a rally in the stock market which indicated a more hopeful outlook on the crisis abroad. The swiftness of the changes in the European situation kept -local wheat traders on edge, but the buying side was neglected, and fairly persistent offerings forced prices gradually lower during the session. Short covering appeared in late trading and reversed the trend.
