The council’s recommended plan of settlement had been rejected, and union leaders were calling each other names. The possibility of an actors’ strike cropped up again, as well as a threatened mass walkout from the A. The stagehands’ union, which had been considered eliminated from the fight yesterday along with the ‘strike threat, was back in it 4gain.

Tenderfoot Gets Hollywood Break

HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 17.—At least one young fellow today is thankful for another chance given him by Director Richard Wallace, who just finished “The Underpup.” ‘While ‘working with a group of 256 boys, he noted one youngster “blowing up” on successive takes. The assistant tried once more and then told him to get off the set. Mr. Wallace intervened. He took the boy to a quiet corner and talked to him. It was the first time the lad had been on a soundstage and he was nervous. Quieted, he returned and went through the sequences perfectly.

Those Mammy ; / / Songs Are ‘Out Times Special A HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 17.—“No Mothers” is the cry on the set of “The Star Maker,” movie now in production starring Bing Crosby. The movie is about the career of Gus Edwards, child talent purveyor of an earlier amusement era. There are about 50 children in. the cast, in dance and singing scenes. For each child there is a mother. Each mother is determined her child shall have a favored position or be given the opportunity of saying some lines. J Consequently the “No Mothers” sign has gone up. The mothers have been given a separate room where they can sit and wait for their offspring.

BELIEVES CENSORS ARE 'LOSING OUT

Times Special HOLLYWOOD, Aug. 17.—Hollywood is needing less anr less censoring, according to Williams Fort, Mexican Republic chief censor. “The studious are handling their productions so thoroughly and so intelligently they are leaving official censors very little to do,” Mr. Fort declared. He visited the set of “Disputed Passage” and “Our Leading Citizen,” Bob Burns’ newest picture.
