“This ekperiment has proved highly satisfactory in every way,” + City Building Commissioner George : R. Popp Jr., who is in charge of the City Combustion Department, said. Discussing the Board’s action, Mr. Johnson said that “institutions which cannot or will not put in suitable equipment to burn soft coal should be compelled to burn a ‘smokeless fuel when it can be purchased at a reasonable price.” The bids are to be opfned Aug. 29 and are good for 2000 tons of fuel, enough to last through the winter - months, Mr. Keach said.

A trackless trolley operator was robbed by a man armed with a large butcher knife last night and ‘another thief escaped from a garage he was ,K attempting to loot after five shots had been fired at him. .Ardra Huckstep, 1111 N. Pershing Ave., told police that he picked up| a man who paid his fare and then pulled a large butcher knife from his pocket. After taking about $2 -in cash and tokens, the man jumped from the bus and ran.. P. E. Harrika, 3340 N. New Jersey St., told police that he heard his garage burglar alarm ring. Taking his pistol, he went to investigate. He saw a man run from the garage and fired five shots but apparently all shots missed. pa William Shure, 58, of 311 Spring St., reported -that he was slugged by a man who crept up behind him in the 400 block Spring St. He was cut on the head and jaw.
