NEW YORK, Aug. 15 (U. P).— Stocks advanced today for :the fourth consecutive session and at the highs the market had regained more than 60.per cent of the recent decline. Automobile and steel issues led the advance which began at the opening. All groups participated although there were individual exceptions. Some of the oils declined on the unsettled conditions in that industry. R. H. Macy made-a new low.in an otherwise firm mercantile group. -Demand for the motors was stimulated by the favorable Chrysler report for the second quarter, released after the close yesterday. Chrysler réached’ 84, up 23% points; General Motors 48%, up 1. Part of these gains was retained. U. S. Steel touched 50, up 1%; Bethlehem 62%, up 1%, and Republic 173%, up 3%. The gains were shaded by profit-taking. Coppers showed gains ranging to 2 points in| En American smelting. Utilities met a moderate demand. A. T. & T. jumped 3 points and held the gain.
