Good Crop Prospects Aid Decline in Heavy Trade.

CHICAGO, July 20 (U. P.).—Corn futures tumbled to, the lowest levels since 1933 and wheat slid to new lows for the year in heavy selling on the Chicago Board of Trade today. All grains were weak. Outside markets refiected the sharp decline, with Liverpool and Winnipeg wheat prices at new seasonal lows and July wheat at Liverpool at a new all-time low. At the close wheat was off 2 10 2% cents, July 637% cents, corn was off 2% cents, July 297% cents, and oats were % cent to 13% cents lower, July 27% cents bid. Corn led-the drop in the local market with declines of more than 2 cents. General liquidation led to heavy stop-loss selling on the way down. Weakness at Buenos Aires and the favorable new crop outlook discouraged traders and waves of liquidation hit the market. Wheat lost as much as 2 cents on a flood of selling in sympathy with corn an dthe extremely bearish tone in foreign markets. Crop news was generally favorable, and export business continued dis- . apopinting. Minneapolis and Kansas City wheat prices fell about 2 cents. The general rush to sell wheat futures was attributed partly to loss of confidence by traders in the ability of the Government to support the market. Oats, rye and soy beans sold off in sympathy with wheat and corn. The last day for trading in July grain contracts is Saturday, after which open confracts must be settled by delivery of the actual grain.

FOR U. S. MEAT BILL PREDICTED

6-Year Record Shipment of Hogs Ready for Fall Marketing.

WASHINGTON, July 20 (U. PJ. —The butchers’ bill may be smaller

this fall and winter. Lower meat prices were forecast by a Department of Agriculture report showing prospective substantial increases in meat supplies this fall, particularly in pork. - A six-year record shipment of hogs will move to market within the next few months, the report said: Supplies of pork and other hog products” will be 15 to 20 per cent larger than last year, it was estimated. Prices of slaughter hogs, cattle and lambs have dipped sharply since mid-April. Supplies of hogs on farms are the largest since<1933. Cattle supplies are only slightly |larger than last year, while iamb supplies are about the same. A surplus of hog products is threatened by the abnormally large number being fattened for market. The Department estimated the spring pig crop—which will go [to market this fall—at 52,300,000 head, about 8,900,000 head larger than the 1938 spring crop. Increases over a year earlier were reported in all regions and in nearly all states. Estimates of the full pig crop, based on the number of sows saved for brood purposes, indicate that the number will be 16 per cent larger than last year. The number of hogs on farms may reach an all-time record by winter.

In Indiana, 19 per cent more sows were saved for farrow, the Agricultural Marketing Service announced,

#2 | while the pig crop has increased 14

per cent: over last year.
