REALIZING ENTERS STOCKS AFTER RISE 10 4-MONTH PEAKS

Most Issues Retain Part of Advance at New York.

NEW YORK, July 18 (U. P.)— Profit-taking brought a mild reac- . tion from the highs in stocks today after prices had hurtled forward to new four-month peaks in about the most active turnover of the year in early dealings. Sales for the first three hours, including 840.000 shares in the initial hour when blocks ranging to 8000 shares studded the tape, approximated 1,410,000 shares, the most active period of the year and compared with 590,000 yesterday. Realizing stemmed from two factors, namely belief in some quarters that the sharp rise of the past two days had slightly weakened the market's technical position and the fact that news regarding Danzig appeared to take a turn for the

‘ANTICHISELING’ WAGE BILL SENT T0 U. S. HOUSE

Measure Designed as Aid To New Deal Labor Reform Acts.

WASHINGTON, July 18 (U. P.) — The Senate sent to the House today | an Administration measure designed | to prohibit Government contractors | from “chiseling” on New Deal labor reforms. ; The prohibitions were included in amendments to the Walsh-Healey act authorizing the Lahor Secretary to establish minimum wage scales on Government contract work. “Black-listing” of employees who have violated laws relating to col-| lective bargaining and against | whom courts have issued decrees for | such violations was a new step taken | in the bill toward enforcement of | a the Administration's labor laws. The minimum wage provisions of | the present law were brought up to 'date by the requiring that the basic] minimum wage be not lower than | A that promulgated under the fair labor standards act. The act was broadened so as to apply to all contracts exceeding $4000 and subcontracts of $4000 or,

LATE BUYING IN GRAIN PIT AIDS WHEAT PRICES

Corn Turns Fractionally Lower at Close on Chicago Board.

CHICAGO, July 18 (U.P.)—Late commission house buying and short covering strengthened wheat prices on the Chicago Board of Trade today, after early weakness. Scattered selling near the close carried corn futures fractionally lower, but other grains were firm, and at the close wheat was up 3% to 1% cent, July 663%, corn was off i to were 2 cent higher, July 27% bid. Indications that a large proportion of new wheat is going into storage for Federal loans and a statement by the Government that export subsidies on wheat and flour would be continued had a construective influence. Crop news was mostly favorable, but private advices spoke of grasshopper damage in the Northwest and need of rain in some sections.

The success story of John Garfield, young movie actor who does] nothing but play himself, will be! told by Angelo Patri, child psycholo- | gist, on the Inside Story at 8:30 o'clock tonight, NBC-WENR. “Red” Ormsby, veteran umpire, will tell how a wild throw in a big league baseball game cost $100,000. Chrysler lost most of an early 11% point rise and steadied around its previous close of 82. General Motors held a small gain. HOMES FINANGED BY FHA UP 80 PER GENT

WASHINGTON, D. C., July 18 — | Construction of new homes under the FHA program during the first six months cf 1939 showed a gain of approximately 80 per cent over the corresponding period of 1938, Administrator Stewart McDonald an- | nounced today. Since March 1st, an average of more than 500 houses have been started under FHA inspection each working day, Mr. McDonald said. | Virtually all of these houses are { small single-family homes valued on |the average at approximately $5500. In the first half year, small home | mortgages selected for appraisal by [the FHA amounted to $60 million | dollars, as compared with $4555,200.{000 in the first six months of 1938, |an increase of 32 per cent, Mr. McDonald said. He pointed out, however, that a much larger proportion of the total involved homes to be | constructed under FHA inspection, with $410,200,000 of this year’s total
