Weather Brings Late Buying Into Wheat Pit.
+ Hot
=I
»
CHICAGO, July 15 Wheat prices ruled fairly steady on the Chicago Board of Trade today, after opening weak. July corn slid to 427% cents, lowest price since April, 1934, on early selling, but recovered to close firm. «| At the close wheat was off % to % cent, July 66c; corn was unchanged to up % cent, July 44c, and oats ... |were 1% cent higher to i cent lower, "y, | July 273sc. h a] Late buying in wheat was based on a forecast of another hot spell in the spring wheat belt for next week which stimulated short covering. Early losses of about ' cent were erased on the upturn. Reports that wheat at the Gulf was offered for export at competitive prices with Canadian offerings was another constructive influence. Actual export sales were flat, however. Corn prices dipped about 1 cent into new low ground in early trading, but subsequently recovered the losses on the unfavorable weather forecast for next week and reports that the Government-owned corn would not be unloaded on the market.

SEC ISSUES RULES ON GOUNTER SALES
WASHINGTON, July 15 (U. P.).— —The Securities & Exchange Commission today took its first formal step toward regulation of ‘over-the-counter brokers and dealers, issuing rules governing the registration of national securities associations under the Maloney Act.
The Maloney Act sets up procedure under which the over-the-counter business may be organized into securities associations to establish a self-regulating system for enforcing fair trade practice. Commission officials said for the next two or three years the SEC probably will do a large share of the regulating until associations of brokers and dealers become strong enough to take over the job themselves.

Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra patrons ‘will recall that the Converse work was included by Fabien Sevitzky on the orchestra’s opening program last season. It is based on the Walt Whitman poem of the same title and is, generally speaking, a more warm-blooded creation than one customarily finds among our older New England composers.
The canoe - paddling symphony lovers of Washington, D. C., are going to hear Andre Kostelanetz in a guest appearance with the National Symphony Orchestra tomorrow night. A portion of the concert will be broadcast by NBC-WIRE at 8 o'clock. The Washingten summer concerts are given near the Lincoln Memorial, with the orchestra seated on a barge in the Potomac. More energetic members of the audience frequently paddle alongside for a spot of water-cooled music at close range. Incidentally, the Washington orchestra is inaugurating a summer broadcast series with tomorrow's program. Under its regular conductor, Hans Kindler, as well as guest leaders, the orchestra will be heard at this same time each Sunday evening, and at 8:30 p. m. on Wednesday nights via NBC-Blue. o ” =
