NYA LAYS PLANS T0 ADD 1000 TO

ROLLS IN STATE

Officials Will Confer Here Next Week on Setup For Coming Year.

State officials of the National Youth Administration will meet at the Indianapolis Athletic Club Monday and Tuesday to make plans to accommodate the 1000 additional youths to be employed in Indiana during the next fiscal vear Yesterday Robert S Richey, State Administrator, announced the increase, which is made possible

through the allotment of an addi-|

tional $400,000 for the State program until July, 1940 Two hundred of the youths will be from Marion County, Mr Richey

said, where 750 now are employed. |

At present there are 5000 out-of-school girls and boys working parttime on State NYA projects.

Need Is Considered

They are assigned on the basis of need. Applicants are certified by the unemployment relief division of the State Welfare Department after a thorough investigation, Mr. Richey said. Preference is given to boys whose families are eligible for some form of public assistance, although this is not mandatory, provided the youth can prove his need for the work “The work is designed to enable young persons who are out of school and without work to form work habits and gain experience,” he stated. The Marion County youths are employed on major projects. Two hundred and! fifteen boys are landscaping various City schools and the dog pound; 74! boys are building a youth center at Coleman Park, 18 boys are pointing! brick at City Library buildings and| 22 girls are emploved at various Negro nursery schools |

Aid in U. 8S. Offices

Clerical work (typing, shorthand! and filing) is being done by 10 boys and 45 girls in various governmental offices; 50 girls and boys are mending and cataloging books and work-| ing at the lending desks in City | Libraries, while 25 boys have been] making township maps at the State! Planning Board ! At 237 N. Pennsylvania, 110 girls/ are employed in a homemaking | project which includes instruction in sewing, answering phone calls, proper dress and applving for jobs. In their sewing projects they are making dresses, romper suits, sheets. pillowcases, overalls and hospital supplies, all of which are to be used in State and County institutions. | Forty-five boys and girls are being) trained at the City parks in recreational leadership. Sixty-four bovs are employed at shops of the Indianapolis Schools. Flanner House and the NYA, making and reconditioning furniture.

Make State Posters

At Spades Park boys are being taught the “silk screen process” of) making posters for the State Health Board and the Conservation Department. The amount of salaries paid de-

CAPITAL STOCK FORMS DELAYED

U. S. Tax Official Explains Situation as Inquiries Reach Office.

Capital stock tax blanks, which

approximately 15 are to be filed on or before July 31,

have not been received from Wash-

ington because of a change in the] law, Will H. Smith, U. 8S. Internal Revenue Collector, announced today. | Letters and phone calls have been received by his office, he said, ask-| ing about the blanks. They are expected to be received soon, he stated, and immediately will | be sent to taxpayers.

Rate Remains Same

According to the law, for the year ending June 30, 1939 and subsequent vears, corporations are subject to the capital stock tax at the same rate as under the previous law—S$1 for| each $1000 of adjusted declared | value of the capital stock. The tax for the year ending June 30, 1939, is based on the value declared in the 1938 capital stock tax return adjusted as provided for in the law, unless the corporation elects | to increase such valuation. Under this amendment, domestic corporations may arbitrarily increase, but not decrease, their capital stock valuation for the years ending June 30, 1939, and June 30, 1940.

Change Due in 1941

A redeclaration will be available for the year ending June 30, 1941. The effect of the amendment, Mr.

Smith said, is to relieve domestic.
