to the jaw—measured him, took dead aim and let him have it. The punch had kayo written all over it but all it did was stagger the little | round guy. And then came the third round | and the second nerve-tingling sur- | prise of the night. Galento put] Louis on the floor, Louis the in-/ vincible, the super man, the greatest of all time. We thought he hit him with a right under the heart. Louis says it was a left to the jaw, and so does Galento and they ought to know. Anyway, he went down as if hit by a bullet. One second he was up in| fighting posture, the very next he was bouncing on the canvas. It was

Joe Hangs On | Louis didn't seem to be hurt so much as scared. He was up without a count but he was flustered. What thoughts may have passed through his mind at this point we have no way of knowing but we do know he realized, if he had not already realized, that this “funny little fat man,” as he referred to Galento before the fight, was a dangerous foeman. As the round went on Louis showed this more and more. Near the close of the round 'Galento crowded Louis to a neutral corner and belted him lustily and then we saw something we had never seen before in any of Louis’ fights. We saw him grab Galento's arms and hold. If he wasn't frightened he was at least conservative.

The end came in the fourth. Already the fight had gone longer than most of the crowd figured it would. Louis was hitting faster if not harder —three, four, five to one for Galento. But in between times Galente world come waddling in with a swishing punch that would take the play away from the champion. There was no immediate indication that the fourth round would be the last, although Galento was bleeding generously. As a matter of fact, Galento charged Louis at the start with such fury and ferocity that the champion actually did a Pastor. He got on a bicycle and pedaled furiously. He wasn't sure that he wanted too much of this boisterous cave man.

Louis Sees an Opening It was something you could not sense immediately—and certainly Louis didn’t—but Galento had just about fought himself out, and the round hadn't gone very long before Louis saw an opening he couldn't possibly miss. Everybody in the] stadium saw it. Galento’s guard was down and his face was fully exposed. Louis brought back his right hand as far as he could and hit Galento | with what was undoubtedly one o the hardest punches he ever threw. | This was the beginning of the end. | From then on it was all Louis. Ga- | lento took punch after punch and | came back but he was whipped. Finally, all in, nothing left, he| stood against the ropes and was slaughtered—or would have been if the referee hadn’t stepped in when

One time he goes for a “new shape’’; another time, a “new Havana Blend”; or a “price reduction” or a “new package”. You can’t expect him to get a lot of satisfaction from smoking. The very fact they make the changes proves those kinds of cigars don’t suit real smokers.

He knows that Phillies doesn’t make changes—or bring out new selling features —because smoke ers, themselves, have proved that Phillies is just right by walking up to cigar counters, day after day, and laying down more money for Phillies than for any other brand at any price.
