Rumble Seat ‘Spy’ Sues; Asks Alimony From Wife
A 33-year-old printer who hid in the rumble seat of his automobile to “spy” on his wife and a male friend, today had filed suit for divorce
in Superior Court.
The husband, who said he was not treated as a husband should be,
asked $3000 alimony. He contended that his wife, a 32-year-old comptometer operator, went hunting, roller skating tobogganing and to the movies with other men. He charged she frequently stayed out late at night. She even brought her male companions home and introduced him to them as her brother, he claimed. He added that he was forced to prepare the meals, wash the dishes and do the spring housecleaning.
In December he secreted himself
in the rumble seat of his car while his wife drove downtown and while en route to a theater, he said he overheard conversation about a ring a man had given his wife. The husband charged that In March he executed a written agreement with his wife whereby he deeded to her all their property, including an $800 savings account, and she agreed to file suit for divorce. She didn’t carry out her agreement, he claimed.

She studied marriage license records in Marion County, Indiana, for the period from 1929 to 1938 to determine the effects of depression on the marriage rate. Mrs. Deputy concluded that a depression not only postpones, but prevents marriages. She found also that changes in economic condi-

Sociologists said that facts revealed by her survey will especially interest public utilities which are affected by the number of family housing units, businesses dealing in household furnishings and welfare workers. Mrs. Deputy was graduated from Franklin College last year. Her husband is a junior at the Indiana University Medical School.
