“There are men who will injure their country to assure their own] elections,” he declared after quoting] from several campaign addresses | by the President. “Reluctantly and] with shame, candor compels me to! say that Franklin Roosevelt stands] today as the most outstanding of} such men’ Claiming that voters have lost| faith in the pledges of political par-| ties, Mr. Hamilton warned: | “We must not promise the impos-| sible. We must shun expediency. We | must undertake the task of restor-| ing to the American people faith | and confidence in the truthfulness. worth and sincerity of political platforms and declarations.” Citing New Deal expenditures, he| said that historians may well de-| scribe the New Deal as the “New, Debt Era.”

Claims Farm Income Down

The annual gross farm income] during the last six years has been | £8.659,000,000 including Government | payments, Mr. Hamiiton said. In the | six previous years to the New Deal, | he said, it was $10,223,000. “Instead of sanity in govern-| ment,” he charged, “instead of un-| loosening the bonds of private en-| terprise and giving Americans a chance to work and establish for themselves careers and businesses, the Roosevelt Administration has made an economic laboratory out of the nation, turned all of us into! guinea pigs for the experiments of a group of socialistically minded] young men.”

AMERICAN Eo PUBLIC ing population | in all parts of | = the country, asking: JER “Do you favor reducing the age at which American citizens can vote from 21 to 182” The survey shows that Judge | Lindsey's proposal would have the support of only one voter in six at | [the present time. The division of | | opinion is: Favor reducing age Oppose EMOCRATS are somewhat more in favor of the idea than Republicans, and lower income voters are more sympathetic than well-to-do voters. But the majority express their opposition to the idea in three principal ways, their comments show: * 1. By far the most frequent comment is that most young people under 21 are too unfamiliar with political matters to make competent voters. Many of them remark that “even at 21 you don't know very much about what's going on.” 2. Another group say young people in their teens are still “finishing their educaticn” and that there's plenty of time to vote later on. 3. The smallest group say that “21 has always been the age limit and why change?” Perhaps the most interesting vote of all is that of persons just out of} their teens—persons between 21 and | 130. They are just as much opposed | to the suggestion at the present! time as their elders:
