ST. LOUIS, June 15 (U. P.) —The Women's Western Open golf tournament entered the quarterfinals today with its 1938 champion, Beatrice Barrett of Minneapolis seeking to retain her title, but without the tournament medalist, and without the 1938 runnerup. PHILADELPHIA, June 15 (U. P). —Charlest Albert (Chief) Bender, whose hurling lifted the Philadelphia Athletics to World Series championships nearly three decades ago, has been signed by the A's as a scout and pitching coach, Manager Connie Mack announced today.
