FEAR IS BLAMED

BY WILLKIE FOR IDLE FUNDS, MEN

Federal Policies Responsi-| ble, Hoosier Declares in Magazine Article.

NEW YORK, June 14 (U. P).— Wendeil L. Willkie, president of the Commonwealth & Southern Corp. said today that the Federal Government, by its conduct toward business, was keeping $4.000.,000,000 idle and 11,000,000 persons unemployed. Writing on “Idle Money—Idle Men” in the Saturday Evening Post, Mr. Willkie said investors were afraid to put available capital to work because they were afraid of the Government. Mr. Willkie is a native of Elwood, Ind. Cites ‘Elements of Fear’ The man who fought against the Government for five years over the Tennessee Valley Authority and “lost one company in the process” summed up the present industrial and employment situation as follows: “Government regulation, Government competition and Government discouragement of investment are the three elements of the fear that dominate the businessman and investor today. { “And if we balance up the books, where are we? “1. Books Are Donated to Library at Rate Of 100 a Day.

He told the School Board last night that since the first week in March when he appealed for books, that 12334 have been donated, compared with 1794 last vear during the , same period. Previous to his appeal through newspapers, over the radio and by streetcar posters, the donations had reached the lowest point in 12 years.
