Proposed Dual Lane Road From
City to Greenwood Called Ideal
Stoops Terms It Route of Future; North-South Highway Planned.
The new dual lane highway planned between Indianapolis and Greenwood will be the ideal road of the future, according to Todd | Stoops, Hoosier Motor Club secretary The highway, which will be started soon, will have a grass plot running down its center. The oldtime four-lane highways are dangerous because of the likelihood of headon collisions, Mr. Stoops declared. “The increased width of the fourlane road,” he said, "has lessened the danger to some extent, but has | not eliminated it. The four-lane] highway is almost as dangerous as| the three-lane road.” Plan North-South Road A proposed North-South through highway system, to run from Macki- | naw City, Mich. to Key West, Fla. over U. S. 31 through Indianapolis, is to be constructed. on the improved dual lane plan, Mr. Stoops said Although ostensibly to pass through Indianapolis, Mr. Stoops explained the road would go around the City because of the great amount of traffic it would carry. “It will circle the City, probably to the west,” he said. "One or perhaps two ‘cloverleafs’ will have to be built to provide egress from the road and still not interfere with the traflic. ‘Cloverleaf’ Explained “A ‘cloverleaf’ is the name for the new type of overhead crossing of through highways. The danger of collision between auto on the crossroads is brought to a minimum by the use of this crossing. “There will also need to be an overhead at the crossing of Read 40 and the new highway,” he added. The new highway will be built by funds contributed by the states through which the highway travels and augmented by Federal grants-in-aid Kentucky already has be-! gun to improve the part of the road that goes through its territory. In some parts of the country, where it is almost impossible to widen the present strip and make a dual lane highway, two roads will be built parallel to one another, Mr. Stoops said. Kentucky did this in the case of 41E and 41W. The newest idea is to separate the road and

road. Approved by U. S. The U. S. War Department has approved way see, Alabama and Florida. Mr. Stoops said the building of the proposed highway would be a very slow process. “It might be five or even 10 years before the entire stretch of dual lane highway is an accomplished fact,” he declared.

As Business Goes, So Go
DETROIT, May 25 (U. P.).—Color exparts have decided that the more prosperous is business the gayer the hues on automobiles. A survey during the past 20 years has shown that during periods of business depression, black and other somber colors predominated. As conditions tend to improve, however, brighter hues are more in demand, and so it appears to some experts the country is about to enjoy an era of prosperity. A survey of purchases over the past few months by one manufac-|
turer showed that of 40,000 cars|Ped toward grayer tones. built, black, which had been domi-| In 1934 the curve started upward
