State Pays Benefits for 2,000,000 Weeks of Unemployment.
The two millionth unemployment insurance check paid in Indiana was issued today, nearly 13 months after payment of the first benefits. | Checks issued to date by the Indiana Unemployment Compensation Division represents two million! weeks of total or partial unemploy-| ment for 215.000 applicants who were compensated to the extent of | $21,540,000, Clarence A. Jackson, division director, said “This sum has been a tremendous boon to worker and employer alike since it helped maintain individual income and local and gen-| eral markets,” Mr. Jackson said The first benefit check was issued on April 25, 1938. and five and one-| half months later the total had passed one million. With employment conditions improving, it took seven and one-half months to issue the second one million checks, he, said. Lester Kassing, local job insurance manager, said 245,000 weeks of total or partial unemployment for; 26.000 persons in the Indianapolis’ district has been compensated to the

BRUSH CO. SETTLES 16 WAGE CLAIMS
The Indiana Ox Fibre Brush Co, formerly of Seymour and now located at Frederick, Md, has paid $3600 to 16 complaintants for back wage losses suffered as a result of alleged unfair labor practices, the NLRB office here announced today. The stipulation covering the settlement for workers at the Seymour plant was entered into between the company and Brush Makers Union 21138 on April 21.
