cago business administration school dean, led the sectional discussion In a speech on “Accounting Principles,” Lewis Ashman of Chicago, vice president of the Amerfecan Institute of Accountants, said that conservatism, consistency and sufficient disclosure guided the representative practicing accountant. “The various rules,” he said, “for the valuation of assets, the inclu-

sion of liabilities, the determina- |

tion of net income, and the preparation of financial statements are nothing more than the practical application of these three basic pri ciples.” Consistency obviously refers to an uninterrupted policy of dealifg with problems of valuation in order that the income of any given period may not be distorted “The third principle, sufficient disclosure, is the golden rule of accountancy Its observance requires the furnishing of information adequate to acquaint the reader with matters of importance which otherwise would not come to his notice.” Other speakers today included G. F. Detmer of Ft. Wayne, vice president of the association: E. E Thomas, Evansville. association director: Alva Prickett, Indiana®University accounting professor; M. O Ross.
