Harold B. Tharp Heads Organization for 1939-40 Season; Herbert Foltzes Are Made Honorary Members.
By VIRGINIA MOORHEAD MANNON The future of the Players Club, at least for the 1939-40 season, rests with Harold B. Tharp, president; Mrs. Thomas S. Hood, vice president; Mrs. Arthur G. Loftin, secretary, and Raymond F. Mead, treasurer. The new officers were elected Saturday evening at the club's annual dinner, business meeting and dance at Woodstock Club when 125 members celebrated the conclusion of a successful season. As an acknowledgement of their services to the club Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Foltz were made honorary members. Flippant cottons and garden flower prints, slim at the waist and wide at the hem, were picturesque color notes in the ballroom. Mrs. Hood wore a shepherd's plaid gingham dinner gown with collar of white. Mrs. Loftin’s circular skirt fashioned of layers of filmy black chiffon was topped with a lingerie blouse and sash of cranberry crepe. Mrs. Newell C. Munson chose gaily printed yellow chintz with matching quilted jacket. Mr. and Mrs. Munson have as their guests for several days Mr. Munson's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Matthew R. Munson of Prairie du Chien, Wis. Mrs. Jack E. Harding who recently returned from New York where she attended the premiere of the motion picture, “Juarez,” based on her book, “Phantom Crown,” wore a dinner gown fashioned with knife-pleated black crepe skirt and blouse of rows of dusty pink insertion. Mrs. Ralph W. Lieber, who with Mr. Lieber had entertained informally before the dinner, was gowned in white waffle pique with flowered pique jacket. Mrs. Robert Ferriday Jr. wore pastel pink chiffon with softly shirred waist and full, puffed sleeves and gardenias in her hair. Mrs. William J. Kothe chose white crepe with a printed cranberry bolero and Mrs. Ernest Baltzell wore white polka-dotted emerald crepe. Deep box pleats fashioned the skirt of Mrs. Walter J. Stuhldreher's flower-printed chiffon on poudre blue ground. Mrs. Tharp's Atlantic blue chiffon gown was made with a deep V neck and accordion-pleated skirt.
Spring Dance Arranged Patrons and patronesses for the Stansfield Circle's spring dance Saturday evening at Woodstock Club include Messrs. and Mesdames C. E. Whitehill, Edwin H. Forry, James B. Nelson, Hughes Patten, Carl Watson, Clyde E. Titus, William A. Atkins, Mervin J. Hammell, J. Emmett Hall, John Sloane Kittle, William H. Morrison, John S. Wright, James W. Noel and Jack Rhoades; Mesdames Henry H. Hornbrook. Allan A. Wilkinson, Hortense Rauh Burpee, Albert P. Smith and Miss Emma Claypool. Mrs. H. Foster Clippinger, chairman of patrons and patronesses, has been assisted by Mrs. Alex L. Taggart. E. McCown, Elsa Pantzer, Marie Henry, Dimitri Chamilovitch, Charles C. Martin, Harold H. Armholter and George T. Parry; the Misses Irving Moxley and Helen Coffey. Miss Anne Elder returned to Vassar College yesterday after spending the week-end in Indianapolis and Louisville where she attended the Kentucky Derby with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Bowman Elder. Dr. and Mrs. Dudley A. Pfaff also attended the races Saturday at Churchill Downs. Dr. Irvine H. Page is home from a trip to Toronto and a few days in New York where he attended the Fair. Mrs. John W. Kern will leave Sunday for Roanoke, Va. for a visit with her daughter, Mrs. George B. Lawson, following which she will go to Washington to visit her son, Judge John Kern, and Mrs. Kem. Mrs. Otto N. 5 x ® Palmistry Lecture Enjoyed Mrs. George Philip Meier, who has devoted 40 years to the scientific study of hands, “diagnosed” her own impressions of distinguished Hoosier palms for Propylaesum Club members last night following the monthly Sunday evening buffet supper. In the square-palmed. practical, conscientious class she placed William Fortune, Evans Woollen and Fermor S. Cannon. The hands of Mrs. May Wright Sewali, founder of the Propylaeum, revealed independence of thought and action. Mrs. Demarchus C. Brown's smooth, inspirational fingers show quickness of perception and the gift of expression. The late Mrs. Ovid Butler Jamesen's short fingers indicated loyalty and breadth of view. Other famous palms described were those of actresses Carole Lombard and the late Louise Closser Hale: humorists George Ade, Kin Hubbard and Chic Jackson; musicians William H. Ball and Bomar Cramer;
