Bu Science Service WASHINGTON, May 5. — Dead men do tell tales and even solve century-old murder mysteries. Their <keletons reveal to modern scientific inquiry what kind of men and women they were, how they lived, when and how they died, declared prof. Wilton Marion Krogman of the University of Chicago, in an address here recently before an au{ience of Washington scientists. Murder mysteries have been solved bv the methods of physical anthropology, even when they are

centuries old, Prof. Krogman told, A recent scientific examination of

his hearers. A classic example was that of the Princes in the Tower. Edward V, child King of England and his brother Richard were shut up in the Tower of London on June 25, 1493, by the wicked aunchback usurper Richard III. They never were seen again. They were believed to have suffocated at the command of Richard, who met his own end only two years later, But there have been some historians who blamed the murder on Richard's successor, Henry VII.

the children’s bones showed that the date of their death indubitably fell within the reign of Richard III, who thereby had their murder added to the list of his other crimes Henry VII is acquitted. An equally classic case, involving no crime, is the

life for ancient times. According to the skeletal evidence, however, he was little more than a boy himself when he died—his bones are those of a 21-year-old man.

Yet he built a great city and in- |

stituted a far-reaching though short-lived religious revolution, and his reign lasted for 16 vears. Unless in his coffin are really Akhenaten'’s, the career of this reformer-pharaoh becomes a greater historical puzzle than ever. In general, Prof. Krogman explained, it is possible to set an sge
