TONIGHT 7:00-Lucille Manners, WIRE. 7:30—~Burns and Allen, WFBM, 8:00—Orson Welles, WFBM. 9:00—Guy Lombardo, WIRE.

CBS-WFBM at 8:30 o'clock tonight will send out a special broadcast from four capital cities of the commentary on Adolf Hitler's speech to the German Reichstag. William L. Shirer, CBS Central European director, will speak from Berlin; Thomas Grandin from Paris; Edward R. Murrow, CBS European director, from London, and Albert Warner, new CBS political analyst, from Washington. NBC-WIRE will also carry a special commentary at 9:30.

Next to war threats that never seem to materialize, or maybe baseball, a young fellow by the name of Johnstown is the most important thing in the world right now. So CBS-WFBM brings the Woods Memorial Stakes, more affectionately known as the “Wood,” at 3 p. m. tomorrow. Johnstown and El Chico, who, some people say hasn't the heart for the distance, will battle it out for the alleged honor of being the favorite with Technician for the Kentucky Derby next Saturday. (In case you haven't been following, it's a horse race.) The broadcast will be by Bryan Field, CBS turf commentator. ” o o Orson Welles,” who, if he doesn’t burn himself out, will be able to go on livening up dull Fridays for a long time, is on the air at 8 o'clock tonight, CBS-WFBM. The play is “Black Daniel.” Since that has long been recognized as the w. k. name for Daniel Webster the assurances are that the d-r-rama won't be particularly scary.

been pretty demure, will play op= posite Mr. Welles. Miss Bennett's role is described as an “historical’ one. She is getting that way from her newest role of Maria Theresa in “The Man in the Iron Mask.” : ” s 8 Paul de Kruif is still best ree membered by many as the author of

“Microbe Hunters.” Some time later | he wrote “Why Keep Them Alive?’ .

and he was referring to unfortunate

humans and not the microbes that :

bother them. Tomorrow at 1 p. m, CBSWFBM, the Men Against Death pro-

gram, sponsored by the radio di= '-

vision of the Federal Theater, will broadcast a radio dramatization, of the de Kruif question, “Children of the Shadow.” The scene will be the slums of Cincinnati (the producers point out that any other large

American city could be the stage)

and case histories of the unfortu-

nate children living there will told

against the background of the one ray of hope:

now being proposed. ” » 8 Everything points to one of the

two Fairs now vying with each

other for the attention of Mr. and Mrs. America. George Burns and Gracie Allen seem to have. turned traitor to their home state. Tonight at 7:30 o'clock, CBS-WFBM, the wacky pair will Hollywood on what will probably be as epoch-making a trip as the “Union Pacific” woodburners. Henry A. Beaubier, WICLE, Indi-

ana State Police Radio Staff meme °

ber, will talk at 8 o'clock tonight: on the Harvey UX-10 radio transe mitter. He will speak before mem-

bers of the Indianapolis Radio Club
