CHICAGO, April 27 (U. P)-~ Sears, Roebuck & Co, today announced continued record-breaking’ {sales figures for the third 1939
period, extending from March 27 to April 23. Sales totaled $49.159636 during
total of $40,156,151 last year, an increase of $9,003,485, or 22.4 per cent. Company officials also released figures on three periods from Jan. 30 to April 23. The 1939 total was $125428,184¢ as compared to $106,778,151 for 1938, an increase of $18,650,033, or 17.5 per cent.

NEW YORK, April 27 (U. P)— G. R. Kinney Co., Inc, had a first quarier net operating loss of $49 - 000 less than a year ago, George L. Smith, president, said at the annual stockholders meeting yesterday. He predicted, however, that the company would “break even” for the first half, pointing out that seasonally the first quarter is the poorest of the year.

1938. Gross operating revenue for the system for three months totaled $32,682,413 compared with $32,364, 284 last year, an increase of $318,129. Operating expenses cut $2,162,349, totaling $28,784,648 against $30,946,997 a year ago.

WIRE and WFBM will go on the air an hour early tomorrow at 5 a. m. to broadcast Adolf Hitler's answer to President Roosevelt's plea for world peace. Herr Hitler considered his answer of such importance that he called a special session of the Reichstag, Germany's legislature. The speech is set for noon tomorrow (Berlin Time) and will be broadcast to the German people. Both CBS and NBC will provide interpreters on the spot and commentaries will be made during and after the speech. The broadcast will last about an hour and a half.

The duo will play with “Little Fishes.” Kathryn Meisle, Metropolitan Opera contralto, will sing two numbers on the broadcast.

A policeman woke him up and asked him to see his license. “I haven't any,” the trusty said.
