Surplus Purchases Program Urged to Relieve Crisis | ‘Facing 18,000,000. |
CHICAGO, April 14 (U. P).—| Dairy farmers or the nation today had demanded that the Federal Government resume an emergency program of dairy products surplus purchases to stabilize the industry and alleviate “a national crisis con- | fronting 18 million people who live, en farms in the Dnited States.” { Representatives of 62 dairy or-| ganizations affiliated with the National Co-operative Milk Producers Federation unanimously approved the demand after an all-day session yesterday behind closed doors. Federal subsidies to equalize losses on exports, resumption of the ac-: tivities of the Dairy Products Mar-, keting Association established last June to remove surplus butter from the market and appropriation of additional funds by Congress for the) disposal of huge dairy surpluses] were recommended by the federa-| tion board of directors. i
Increased Costs Cited
The farmers cited as the basis for | their demands decreased income’ from dairy products. increased costs of production and mounitng surpluses ia the face of price fiuctuations since the Federal Government abandoned surplus purchases. !
