legations of Polish terrorism against Germans in the Polish Corridor, a protest by the Danzig Government against the dissemination of an alleged anti-German song, and the arrest in Poland of 21 persons described as German Nagis brought sudden tension in relations between Germany and Poland today. The combination of reports came as the British and French Governments were preparing to make declarations of Mediterranean policy, aimed against an Italian expansionist program at the expense of smaller nations. First the official DNB News Agency, in a dispatch from Danzig, asserted that 100 Germans had fled from “Polish terrorism” in the Polish Corridor between Germany proper and East Prussia. Danzig Makes Protest Second came an official announce-
ment at Warsaw that 21 “German Nazis,” including some women, had
been arrested in Western Poland on charges of inciting against the state, insulting the Polish Army or organizing or belonging to an organization similar to the Hitler Maidens of Germany. Third came the news that Danzig’s Nazi Government had protested to the Polish diplomatic representative against distribution from Polish trains crossing Danzig territory of an Anti-German song, “Rota.” It was regarded as noteworthy here that this protest followed the complaint of “terrorism.”
Arson Reported at Praust
Until the protest was made, it was understood, there had been a suspension of discussion for several days of routine small incidents and prcblems affecting relations of Poles and Danzig people. There had been a feeling that there was some tension, and that the Danzig Government had suspended the usual conversations
sent new demands to Poland as regards Danzig, the Polish Corridor or establishment of a strategic motor road zone connecting Germany and Bast Prussia. It was denied also that there had been any extraordinary troop movements in German territory near Poland. The Voelkischer Beobachter, official Nazi Party newspaper organ, said in a front page article today that not until Germany had as much territory in the world per person as had France and Great Britain would European equilibrium be established “in the opinion of Nationalist Socialist Germany.”
CZECH EXHIBIT UNCHECKED NEW YORK, April 13 (U. P).— The $1,000,000 Czechoslovak exhibit at the World's Fair--partly completed when Germany occupied Czechoslovakia—will be finished and operated on a nonprofit basis by a committee of outstanding citizens, Mayor La Guardia said today.
