The Mdianapolis Citizens Speed®ay Committee's courtesy division fc to meet next week to complete “welcoming plans” for race visitors, Paul I. McCord, Chamber of Commerce civic activities vice chairman. said todav. The citizens’ committee, established last year, has been reorganized this vear with three basic objectives in mind, Mr. MeCord said. “We have organized to promote courtesy and hospitality on the part of our citizens; place civic interest behind the giving of lap prizes, and make plans for the annual victory dinner.” he said.
Start Made Last Year
“We have thousands of people coming into Indianapolis each year for the Memorial Day Race and until last vear there was no move on the part of any civic group to ex-
tend a& welcome hand to these visitors,” Mr, McCord said. “Last vear we made it obvious to the visitors that they were welcome hy the use of badges on policemen, and firemen which said ‘Welcome to Indianapolis. If you need help ask me. Through these badges and other forms of hospitality we hope to encourage more and more people to return each year and bring their friends.” he explained. Ralph 8. Norwood, president of L. Strauss & Co. and chairman of the Speedway committee, is general chairman of the citizens committee; | Oscar B. Perine, of the Perine Oil] Refining Co. vice chairman, and] Samuel Mueller, director of promotion and extension of the Chamber, secretary.
