Justin Predicfs Farming of Less Intensity in State During Year.
Times Special : >
LAFAYETTE, March 25.—“Indiana farmers will farm less intensively this year than last,” M. M. Justin, agricultural statistician for the Purdue University ‘Agricultural Experiment Station, said today. “Of the major crops only soybeans are expected to occupy an increased acreage. Winter wheat acreage was reduced sharply last fall and reductions are intended in corn, oats, hay and potatoes,” he said. “Some increase is expected in minor crops and large increases are forecast for rye, barley, tobacco and cowpeas.” “Part of the acreage readjustment is due to the passing of the disturbances resulting from the 1936 drought, part to relatively lower prices of some crops, such as oats, and perhaps the major part to changes made to secure benefit payments under the Agricultural Program.”
Four Marion County students have been awarded certificates for having successfully completed ‘the -eightweeks’ winter course in agriculture at Purdue, it was announced today.
- They are Raymond Bernell Aliff,
R. R. 4; Leslie Emmett Hughes, R. R. 2; Rex B. Burge, R. R. 9, all of Marion County, and Burl W. Woolbright, 3715 E. Vermont St., Indianapolis

|” FOR CAVALIER CRASH 2
WASHINGTON, March 25 (U.P.). The British Air Ministry today blamed ice-clogged carburetors for the loss at sea Jan. 21 of Imperial] Airways’ New York-Bermuda flying boat Cavalier. The try’s conclusions, which
made in a report after investigation of the accident which was climaxed by a dramatic rescue of 10 of the 13 persons aboard the plane. . Investigators found that method of heating the carburetors tosprevent icing apparently was not “foolproof.” They suggested changes for more adequate protection against carburetor icing.
MATTHEWS FAGES
A special panel of 100 talesmen was to be drawn in Criminal Court today from which will be selected, beginning Monday, a jury for the trial of George F. Matthews, who is charged with the murder of Lee Yip Lung, aged Chinese laundryman. Matthews, a 57-year-old former carpenter, is charged with fatally shooting the Chinese, known as Tom Lee, at his laundry, 430 E Washington St., nearly five years
go. Indianapolis detectives say Mr. Lee was killed as the result of an argument over a laundry order. The quarrel started, they say, when the customer claimed he had left one more shirt than Mr. Lee returned to him. Officers believe the customer demanded another shirt or 75 cents. Matthews has confessed the murder, according to police, but has pleaded not guilty by reason of self defense.
