ky courty Board Says It wil Be . ‘Unable to Help White River Delegation.
Wearing more damaging spring ‘ods, a delegation of Ravenswood d Terrace Beach residents anunced today they would appeal ‘ectly to U. S. Army engineers at Juisville, Ky., for levees along hite River to protect their homes.
The delegation was informed by 1¢ Marion County Flood Control 3oard yesterday that it would be mpossible for the Board to alleviate the flood menace either by building levees or installing sluice gates in the Broad Ripple dam of the Indianapolis Water Co.
Members of the delegation said that they would request the Water Co. to install the gates if the levees could not be obtained. The gates would lower the river level when ! food waters were reported rushing { diown on the communities from Noblesville. The delegation met with the Mocd Board to learn what could

As the matter now tands, providing flood relief for ur communities is beyond our isdiction.” {M. G. Johnson, Board president, tplained that levees could not be iilt out of War Department or PA funds unless the river at Raviswood was widened from 370 to b feet. that dam when it purchased it from tne State. Those rights which were granted in 1837 provided for the flooding of the land to the north— which is now your property.” Paul Pegg, Ravenswood Town Board chairman, asserted that in the century since the rights were granted, the character of the land had changed from vacant woodland to residential property. He contended, therefore, that the rights could be challenged. y “Flood gates in the dam would give us permanent relief,” he said. “If the river had been lowered only four feet last week, we would never have been flooded. Couldn’t you do something to give us relief that way?”
